Job summary

The After School Assistant position reports to the Superintendent and is non-exempt under FLSA. The aftercare shift runs from 3:15 to 6:00, Monday through Friday, with exact hours coordinated between the aftercare staff and the superintendent.

The role supports the program coordinator, helps students with activities, maintains equipment, supervises learning environments, handles general clerical tasks, and upholds student discipline and safety while contributing to the district's strategic goals.

Qualifications

• Completion of at least two years of study and an associate or higher degree.
• Knowledge of child growth, development and behavior.
• Routine record keeping.
• Knowledge of public education goals and objectives.
• Assume responsibility for supervising students.
• Perform routine clerical work and light typing.
• Learn basic instructional methods and procedures.
• Demonstrate a patient, warm, positive attitude toward children.
• Understand and follow oral and written instructions.
• Maintain cooperative relationships with staff, students, parents and the public.
• Ability to handle stressful situations.
• Maintain confidentiality of employment and student matters.
• Ability to manage time effectively.

Responsibilities

• Assist program coordinator with development and presentation of activities.
• Assist students individually or in groups to develop their skills during activities.
• Perform a variety of maintenance duties such as inventory of and repairing equipment; keep equipment neat and orderly.
• Monitor individual students and classroom activities to provide a safe and positive learning environment.
• Perform general clerical duties for instructional staff, such as preparing schedules for physical education classes and intramural sports.
• Assist in maintaining student discipline.
• Other functions may be required as given or assigned.
