Job summary

Town of Simsbury is seeking an Adult Services Librarian to provide excellent customer service and meet the community's informational needs through diverse means. The role includes reference and reader's advisory for adults, teens, and children as needed, while ensuring confidentiality.

Working 8–16 hours per week, the librarian will assist with library services, promote programs, support online content, and help plan and conduct community outreach and events, including tours and trainings.

Qualifications

• MLIS preferred; MLIS must be obtained within one year from date of hire.
• Proficiency in reference services and with library automation, PCs, software, tablets, Android and smartphones, and social media.
• Strong customer service skills are essential; previous library experience is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Greets library users and offers assistance.
• Provides reference and reader’s advisory guidance to adults and teens, as well as children when needed.
• Maintains confidentiality of library use and patron accounts.
• Performs opening and closing procedures in the Adult Services Department.
• Assists with using library services, equipment, technology, and facilities, both one-on-one and in groups.
• Supports interlibrary loan and resource sharing services.
• Assists with the library’s online presence and promotional materials.
• Plans, facilitates, and conducts programs and library tours.
• Engages in community outreach to promote library as a resource.
• Trains and oversees volunteers in the Adult Services Department.
• Collects usage data and compiles statistical reports.
