Job Summary:

The Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner will provide clinicalcare in the Emergency Department at the University of ColoradoHospital, as delegated by a person licensed to practice medicine inColorado.

Principal activities include patient care in our Super Trackenvironment (continuation of care of ESI 3-4 patients) working in aClinical Decision Unit in the Emergency Department, as well asworking collaboratively with Faculty Attendings on more complicatedpatients in the main zones of the ED. Delegated medical careincludes, but is not limited to, the assessment, treatment and careof patients of all age categories. It is expected the employee willbe competent to interpret age specific developmental, physiologicaland unique care needs by assessment and by observation of caredelivery.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Performs histories and physicals on episodic, low acuity patientsin the Emergency Department as delegated by physicians.
  • Collects, reviews and correlates data to assist physician inappropriate medical management of patients.
  • Assists physician by triaging and monitoring patients, referringfor appropriate care as indicated.
  • Assists in scheduling patients for various clinical appointmentsand procedures. Participates in patient education.
  • Performs or assists physician with direct patient care servicesas needed. Administers medicine and therapeutic agents asdirected.
  • Participates in performance improvement activities; qualityimprovement and patient safety activities; assists in maintainingcompliance with JCAHO accreditation and other internal and externalregulatory standards including the code of conduct.

Qualifications:

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time ofhire.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Active and current license to practice as physician assistant ornurse practitioner in the State of Colorado
  • Certificate of completion from a nurse practitioner or physicianassistant program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation ofAllied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP), or the AccreditationReview Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant(ARC-PA)
  • Certification by the American Association of Nurse Practitioners,National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants orother agency. Current and active certification in basic lifesupport (BLS) and advanced cardiac life support (ACLS)
  • Master's degree for physician assistants or nursepractitioners
  • Minimum of one year clinical experience in emergency care orurgent care post-graduation
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Two years or more of clinical experience in emergency care orurgent care
  • Preference will be given to applicants with the ability to workas part-time nocturnists, with increased differential payincluded
  • Fluency in Spanish
  • Completion of post-graduate Advanced Practice Providerfellowship/residency in acute care Emergency Medicine is highlyrecommended but not mandatory
  • Current and active certification in advanced trauma life support(ATLS)
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • It is expected the employee will be competent to interpret agespecific developmental, physiologic and unique care needs byassessment and by observation of care delivery.

Anticipated Pay Range:

The starting salary range ( or hiring range ) for thisposition has been established as HIRING RANGE:

$90/hr. FTE: 0.25
