The position requires Colorado PA/NP license, a CAHEAP ARC-PA-accredited education, BLS/ACLS/ATLS certs, and a Master's degree with 1+ year ED experience.

Qualifications

  • Active Colorado license to practice as physician assistant or nurse practitioner.
  • CAAHEP/ARC-PA-accredited PA/NP program completion.
  • Current national certifications for PA/NP practice.
  • BLS, ACLS and ATLS certifications required by 4/1/2026.
  • Master's degree required for PA/NP.
  • Minimum of one year clinical emergency care experience.

Job Summary:

The Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner will provide clinicalcare in the Emergency Department at the University of ColoradoHospital, as delegated by a person licensed to practice medicine inColorado. Principal activities include patient care in our SuperTrack environment (continuation of care of ESI 3-4 patients)working in a Clinical Decision Unit in the Emergency Department, aswell as working collaboratively with Faculty Attendings on morecomplicated patients in the main zones of the ED. Delegated medicalcare includes, but is not limited to, the assessment, treatment andcare of patients of all age categories. It is expected the employeewill be competent to interpret age specific developmental,physiologic and unique care needs by assessment and by observationof care delivery.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Performs histories and physicals on episodic, low acuity patientsin the Emergency Department as delegated by physicians.
  • Collects, reviews and correlates data to assist physician inappropriate medical management of patients.
  • Assists physician by triaging and monitoring patients, referringfor appropriate care as indicated.
  • Assists in scheduling patients for various clinical appointmentsand procedures. Participates in patient education.
  • Performs, or assists physician with, direct patient care servicesas needed. Administers medicine and therapeutic agents as directed.
  • Participates in performance improvement activities; qualityimprovement and patient safety activities; assists in maintainingcompliance with JCAHO accreditation and other internal and externalregulatory standards including the code of conduct.

Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

  • Active and current license to practice as physician assistant ornurse practitioner in the State of Colorado
  • Certificate of completion from a nurse practitioner or physicianassistant program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP), or the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA)
  • Certification by the American Association of Nurse Practitioners, National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants or other agency
  • Current and active certification in basic life support (BLS), advanced cardiac life support (ACLS) and advanced trauma lifesupport (ATLS) - ATLS certification required by 4/1/2026.
  • Master's degree for physician assistants or nursepractitioners
  • Minimum of one-year clinical experience in emergency care orurgent care post-graduation
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Two years or more of clinical experience in emergency care orurgent care
  • Preference will be given to applicants with the ability to workas full-time nocturnists, with increased differential payincluded
  • Fluency in Spanish
  • Completion of post-graduate Advanced Practice Providerfellowship/residency in acute care Emergency Medicine is highlyrecommended but not mandatory

  • It is expected the employee will be competent to interpret agespecific developmental, physiologic and unique care needs byassessment and by observation of care delivery.

Anticipated Pay Range:

The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as HIRING RANGE:

$102,595 to $126,160

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents theUniversity's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range ofpossible compensation at the time of posting. This position is noteligible for overtime compensation unless it is non-exempt.
