Aphios Corporation is seeking a Part-Time Accountant to support day-to-day accounting and financial operations at our North Reading, MA facility. You will work with Aphios’ leadership and our Fractional Controller to maintain books, process payroll, and ensure compliance with U.S. GAAP and audit-ready practices.

Qualifications

• Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or related field.
• At least 3 years of bookkeeping or accounting experience.
• Strong working knowledge of general ledger accounting, AP/AR and reconciliations.

Responsibilities

• Maintain day-to-day accounting records and general ledger entries.
• Process accounts payable and accounts receivable.
• Support payroll processing and payroll-related accounting.
• Perform bank, credit card and balance-sheet reconciliations.
• Assist with monthly, quarterly and annual financial close.
• Prepare financial reports and supporting schedules.
• Maintain Sage accounting records.
• Support budgeting, forecasting and budget-to-actual reporting.
• Assist with tax preparation and liaise with external accountants and auditors.
• Support internal controls and procedures.

Position Overview

Aphios Corporation, a clinical-stage biotechnology company developing therapeutic products and proprietary pharmaceutical and nanotechnology platforms, is seeking an experienced Part-Time Accountant to support the Company’s day-to-day accounting and financial operations.

This is a hands-on position for an accounting professional who is comfortable working in a small, entrepreneurial biotechnology company and maintaining accurate, timely and well-documented financial records.

The successful candidate will work with Aphios’ executive and financial leadership, including the Company’s Fractional Controller, and will help maintain accounting records and supporting documentation consistent with U.S. GAAP and audit-ready financial practices.

Experience with Sage accounting software is strongly preferred. Experience with NIH, SBIR/STTR or other federal grant accounting and biotechnology or R&D organizations would be particularly valuable.

Key Responsibilities

• Maintain accurate day-to-day accounting records and general ledger entries
• Process and monitor accounts payable and accounts receivable
• Support payroll processing and payroll-related accounting
• Perform bank, credit card and balance-sheet reconciliations
• Assist with monthly, quarterly and annual financial close
• Prepare financial reports and supporting schedules
• Maintain accounting records in Sage
• Support budgeting, forecasting and budget-to-actual reporting
• Maintain organized documentation supporting financial transactions and audits
• Assist with tax preparation and work with external accountants and auditors
• Support implementation and maintenance of appropriate accounting procedures and internal controls
• Assist the Fractional Controller and management with financing, due-diligence and other financial-information requests
• Support accounting across Aphios Corporation and affiliated entities, as appropriate

Aphios has a significant history of federally funded research and development. Experience with NIH, SBIR/STTR or other federal grants is highly desirable.

Relevant experience may include:

• Tracking grant expenditures and allowable costs
• Project and grant-level accounting
• Direct and indirect cost allocation
• Payroll and labor allocation
• Assisting with grant-related financial reporting and audit preparation

Qualifications

Required:

• Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related field
• At least 3 years of bookkeeping, accounting or related financial experience
• Strong working knowledge of general ledger accounting, AP/AR and reconciliations
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office
• Strong attention to detail, organization and documentation
• Ability to work independently and meet recurring financial deadlines

Preferred:

• Proficiency with Sage accounting software
• Experience working in a biotechnology, pharmaceutical, life-sciences or R&D organization
• NIH/SBIR/STTR or federal grant accounting experience
• U.S. GAAP
• Experience supporting independent financial audits
• Experience with multi-entity accounting
• Experience working with a Controller, CPA or external accounting firm

Position Structure

This is a part-time position with scheduling flexibility based on the candidate’s experience and Aphios’ requirements. On-site participation at Aphios’ North Reading facility will be required.
