Job summary

The Institute for Contemporary Art at Virginia Commonwealth University is seeking qualified part-time Audio/Visual Technicians to support a wide array of programs, events, and classes. This on-site role requires versatility across lighting, sound, projection, video, streaming, and stage management, with events that may run evenings or weekends.

Technicians act as on-site contacts for events, handling setup, operation, and breakdown while maintaining safety and professionalism.

Qualifications

  • Minimum experience in lighting, sound, projection, video, streaming, or performance.
  • Strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills.
  • Good organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to work with visitors and staff from diverse backgrounds.
  • Willingness to work nights and weekends.
  • Safety awareness for live performance venues and equipment up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to climb ladders and work on catwalks.

Responsibilities

  • Set up, operate, and breakdown lighting, sound, projection, video and streaming equipment.
  • Serve as on-site point of contact for scheduled events.
  • Troubleshoot technical issues to support smooth performances.
  • Track equipment and ensure safety and orderly event flow.
