Responsibilities

• Maintain buildings by sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, and vacuuming.

• Maintain floors including stripping, waxing, refinishing.
• Perform snow removal and lawn/landscaping as required.
• Unload/load deliveries and set up equipment for events.
• Provide supplies and materials as needed.
• Oversee groups using the building per principal's directions.
• Return building to set-up after events.
• Report hazards to Head Custodian.
• Follow safety procedures and use cleaning chemicals properly.

Schedule: 4 hours per day, M-F 3:00 p.m.–7:00 p.m.

Summary

Penn Manor School District has an opening for a part-time (12 month), second shift Custodian position. Duties for this positions include maintaining building cleanliness, assisting with maintenance projects, floor maintenance including stripping and waxing, in addition to lawn care and snow removal. Provide a safe, orderly, sanitary environment, conducive to learning, for all students and faculty.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

1. Maintain all school buildings, ensuring a clean and orderly condition by sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, and vacuuming classrooms, library, hallways, stairs, cafeteria, gymnasium, and office space.
2. Assist with maintenance projects as needed; perform minor maintenance repairs and/or upkeep such as painting, replacing light bulbs, air conditioner filters and other related maintenance duties.
3. Maintain personal access to the buildings to include having a working knowledge of the building security system; lock/unlock the building, as required; secure all building windows; perform building security check before the end of shift; and report to the Head Custodian any vandalism, safety and security hazards, and major repairs needed.
4. Perform carpentry duties including furniture assembly and repair.
5. Maintain floors including stripping, waxing, and refinishing; shampoo rugs and carpets.
6. Clean snow and debris from sidewalks and parking lots using a snow blower or snowplow; mow lawn, trim shrubbery and perform other landscaping duties as needed or required.
7. Unload incoming and load outgoing trucks.
8. Deliver supplies, equipment, and books.
9. Set-up equipment as required for each event; following the event return the building to school set-up to include moving gymnasium bleachers as required.
10. Assist and oversee groups using the building as directed by the Building Principal.
11. Perform other duties as assigned by the Lead Custodian or Head Custodian.

Qualifications

• High school diploma necessary
• Knowledge and understanding of various cleaning chemicals is necessary; 1-2 years experience in custodial services and/or in a school district setting is preferred
• Ability to lift and/or carry supplies weighing no more than 80 lbs.
• Lifting, pulling, pushing up to 100 pounds occasionally
• Required to work in the elements during the weather assisting in snow removal.

Physical requirements and Sensory Abilities

• Perform duties outdoors in varying weather conditions as needed, including heat, cold, rain, and snow.
• Exposure to common cleaning agents, fumes, and dust may occur.
• Ability to reach above and below the waist
• Ability to mostly stand, walk or move throughout the workday
• Ability to use fingers to pick, feel and grasp objects
• Ability to use both hands for repetitive motion
• Ability to bend, twist, kneel, stoop, climb, and crawl
