The Camp Hill School District is seeking candidates for an Anticipated Second Shift Custodian/Maintenance position. The base hours for the role will be 2:00 PM - 10:30 PM year-round with some flexibility based on the needs of the selected candidate and the District.
Job Summary
Hands‑on working employee who performs cleaning and minor maintenance duties as well as performing security duties for afterschool activities/events in a K‑12 school setting to create a safe, orderly, and sanitary environment which is conducive to learning for all students, staff, and which reflects positively on our community.
Essential Functions
- Hands‑on custodial tasks including, but not limited to: cleaning of conference rooms, classrooms, lunchroom/cafeteria, music room, band room, stairways and corridors. Sweeping, vacuuming, moving furniture, dry/wet mopping or scrubbing, applying floor finish, extracting carpets, dusting, setting up event furniture, washing tables, desks, windows, and emptying trash bins. Hands‑on cleaning of restrooms, gyms, and locker rooms. Operating floor care equipment.
- Conforms to safety standards as prescribed and sets a safe example for others to follow.
- Communicates daily with Director of Building and Grounds to coordinate building activities, cleaning concerns and security needs. Interacts pleasantly with staff and students regarding custodial/maintenance issues and problems.
- Provides building security for after‑hours events as assigned by monitoring entry/exit points, lobbies, and surrounding areas to ensure safety of attendees and the venue; notifies building administrator and/or Director of Buildings and Grounds when maintenance issues arise and obtains emergency assistance as needed.
- Responds to calls on District cell phone to address custodial/maintenance needs in a timely manner.
- Assists with all set ups and other needs for sports, extra‑curricular activities, or other building use activities.
- Ensures the building is clean and safe by performing walk through inspection regularly.
- Must be able to work as a member of a team and/or individually, be cooperative, and service related. Interact pleasantly and appropriately at all times with students, staff, and visitors.
- Must have the ability to complete assigned tasks with minimal supervision, be organized, and effectively accomplish tasks, and exercise good judgement in prioritizing tasks.
- Performs minor maintenance as requested by the Director of Building and Grounds.
- Keeps constant awareness of the building conditions and takes immediate steps to correct any dangerous, unsanitary, or unsightly conditions. Promptly informs supervisor of any condition of the building that requires immediate attention.
- May be responsible for the opening or closing of the building, securing all doors and windows and lighting as necessary.
- May train new employees and re‑train existing staff on custodial systems, techniques, and methods.
- Uses phone or computer to check email, review the district’s event calendar, and track work orders through the district’s work order system.
- Performs other duties as assigned by Director of Building and Grounds or assigned Administrator.
Additional Responsibilities
- Attend job‑related in‑service programs
- May be requested to ensure proper removal of snow and ice around buildings. Apply ice removal and anti‑skid products.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- Minimum two (2) years of custodial/maintenance work experience. Experience in a K‑12 school setting preferred.
- Ability to operate and maintain various maintenance, custodial, and grounds equipment and district vehicles.
- Valid driver’s license REQUIRED.
- Knowledge and understanding of cleaning chemicals/equipment, their safe operation, and their proper use.
- Must be able to read, write, interpret directions, and communicate professionally and effectively with coworkers.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to frequently walk and stand with occasional sitting.
- Ability to frequently bend, twist, stoop, and reach above and below the shoulder level.
- Ability to frequently use fingers to pick, feel and grasp objects.
- Ability to frequently balance.
- Ability to occasionally climb, kneel, squat, crawl, and crouch.
- Ability to often lift, carry, and move supplies weighing 0‑50 pounds.
- Ability to occasionally lift, carry, and move supplies weighing more than 50 pounds.
- Ability to work in extreme cold (32 degrees or less) and extreme heat (90 degrees or more) and humid conditions.
