Job summary

Missouri Department of Corrections is seeking qualified applicants for a corrections services position focused on supervising offenders, counseling families, and coordinating with courts to ensure public safety.

Qualifications

• Four or more years of experience as a Probation & Parole Assistant, Correctional Officer, or Office Support Assistant or above within the Missouri Department of Corrections.
• OR Four or more years of vocational or paraprofessional experience in social services, probation and parole, corrections casework/custody, law enforcement, guidance/counseling, health, mental health, or related fields; AND possession of a valid vehicle operator’s license.

Responsibilities

• Investigates offender's home/work/social environments for circuit courts/Parole Board; collects/verifies/evaluates data; incorporates into reports and records; assesses needs/risk levels to determine appropriate supervision strategies to ensure effective offender management/public safety; and submits reports to designated legal authorities
• Contacts offenders in their homes, places of employment or confinement and counsels them regarding personal/adjustment problems; attends court to receive court assignments/make reports
• Assists in vocational/educational/social adjustment planning for assigned offenders; cooperates with public/private agencies and law enforcement; investigates offender violations; takes action including warrants when needed
• Prepares statistical reports of activities; administers/ observes breathalyzer/urinalysis testing; assists in special investigations/research projects; serves on committees; as experience increases, supervision may become more general
• Possession of a valid vehicle operator’s license
• Successful completion of safety training including defensive tactics and re-qualify annually.
