Parks Seasonal Maintenance Worker - Horticulture

We are currently recruiting for qualified applicants for the Parks Seasonal Maintenance Worker - Horticulture position. Come and see why the City of Golden is the place you want to be!

As a Seasonal Maintenance Worker for Horticulture, you will assist the Horticulture Technician with maintenance of the City's perennial gardens, annual plant displays, and streetscapes.

Job Summary

This will include the following. Other duties may be assigned:

  • Planting, transplanting, and maintaining planted material including hand watering, deadheading, pruning, etc.
  • Mulching garden areas, weed control, and ensuring garden beds and surrounding areas are free of trash and debris
  • Maintenance of traffic islands, medians, and rights of way
  • Occasional park-related maintenance, including irrigation system maintenance and repair, and hardscaping
  • Operation of small gas-powered equipment and city vehicles
  • Providing positive and professional customer service to residents and visitors
  • Collaborating with volunteer groups and projects as needed
Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required:

Education and Experience

High school diploma or GED preferred. Basic gardening experience including knowledge of annuals, perennials, shrubs, and trees. Basic knowledge of irrigation systems, including drip lines.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

Valid driver’s license and a good driving record.

Language Skills

Ability to read and understand simple instructions, memos, and correspondence. Effective communication skills for one-on-one and small group interactions with residents and colleagues.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to perform basic arithmetic operations with numbers, including using units of currency, weight, volume, and distance.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to follow detailed instructions and handle problems involving concrete variables in standardized situations.

Other Skills and Abilities

Enjoy working outdoors and able to work independently with minimal supervision.

Physical Demands

Regularly required to stand, sit, handle, reach, and stoop. Frequently walk, climb, or balance. Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds regularly and occasionally up to 50 pounds. Vision abilities include color, distance, peripheral, and close vision.

Work Environment

Exposed to outdoor weather conditions and moderate noise levels. Must be comfortable working outside in heat and varying weather conditions.
