Job summary

The City of Lubbock seeks a seasoned leader to serve as Director of Parks & Recreation, responsible for planning, directing and evaluating a comprehensive program of park and recreation services, with primary responsibility for leading major recreation facilities.

You will set departmental priorities, guide budgets, supervise staff, foster public relations, and oversee grants and performance reporting while ensuring high quality services and safe, welcoming parks for the community.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in parks and recreation or closely related field with 5 years progressively responsible experience including supervisory experience and facility operations/oversight.

Responsibilities

• Lead development of departmental priorities and seek new processes to improve efficiency.
• Foster a workplace culture based on professionalism, collaboration, respect, and accountability.
• Develop and implement projects and programs; establish broad priorities and work sequences.
• Develop monthly reports on department activities.
• Oversee operating budget and grant funds; ensure compliance with policies.
• Hire, train, supervise, and evaluate management staff; provide coaching as needed.
• Represent the department at public meetings and with officials.
• Oversee facilities and maintenance of parks and municipal properties.
