Job summary

The City of Washington is seeking a Grounds Maintenance Worker to care for city parks, facilities and playing fields. This role involves manual labor with hand tools and light equipment, routine horticultural tasks and basic repairs.

You will prepare fields for sports, operate mowers and small machinery, and help keep City properties clean and safe. A valid North Carolina driver’s license is required and a high school diploma or GED is necessary.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• Six months or more experience in grounds/landscaping.
• Valid NC driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Operates light equipment to prune shrubbery and trees.
• Inspects equipment and performs basic maintenance.
• Sets up facilities for City events.
• Prepares fields for games: mowing, lines, bleachers, sod.
• Performs minor carpentry and electrical repairs.
• Cleans facilities including floors, walls, and bathrooms.
• Operates mowers for grass cutting.
• Cleans and restocks supplies; changes bulbs.
• Other duties as assigned.
