Job summary

Sarasota County Government in the Parks, Recreation and Natural Resources (PRNR) division seeks a senior leader to oversee the Parks Internal Operations Division, directing daily operations, budgeting, planning, and coordination of projects. This role collaborates with department leadership, staff, contractors, and external partners to implement policies that improve efficiency and park services.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree plus six years of professional experience related to the position.
• At least four years of supervisory experience.
• Master’s degree can substitute for two years of professional experience.
• May substitute years of experience for the 4-year degree.

Responsibilities

• Lead the Parks Internal Operations Division in the development and implementation of department and division goals.
• Work with staff and contractors to provide well-maintained parks and venues and to plan and implement projects in parks.
• Prioritize projects based on asset age, need and funding; schedule preventive maintenance in parks.
• Implement universal design and accessible improvements with the PRNR ADA Transition Plan.
• Administer and manage the division’s operating budget and capital programs; contribute to operating impacts for capital projects.
• Serve as the PRNR DOC Operations Section Chief during disasters (e.g., hurricanes).
• Develop, coach and mentor assigned staff.
• Oversee the work management system and ensure accurate data and reports for leadership.
• Work with EIT to create reports and work management functions.
• Lead effort to capture all park assets in Maximo and assist GIS mapping of assets.
• Assess and track condition of park assets and identify projects for repairs/replacements.
• Collaborate to use technology for asset lifecycle tracking and maintenance.
• Present suggestions for improvements and budget use to management.
• Collaborate on updates to the Maintenance Standards Manual.
• Participate in park planning functions related to park maintenance.
• Serve as a resource for PRNR capital program and for Facilities Maintenance, Transportation, Risk, and Office of Financial Management.
• Assist with review and approval of park development designs to ensure functionality and maintainability.
• Provide input on design standards/guidelines and for park code amendments.
