An established industry player is seeking dedicated individuals for manual labor roles in the Public Works Department. This part-time temporary position involves maintaining parks, assisting with construction, and performing various manual tasks. Returning employees are eligible for hire above step 1 based on previous seasons worked, with a maximum appointment at Step 3.
Responsible for manual labor tasks within the Public Works Department, including work on roads, bridges, vegetation, signage, pavement markings, traffic control devices, ferries, fleet, drainage, nuisance control, working with adult-in-custody work crews, park maintenance, environmental sites, parks, landfill, and transfer sites.
Work under the supervision of a supervisor, crew leader, or lead worker who assigns tasks and observes performance. May work independently on routine tasks at the supervisor's discretion.
Supervision of other employees is not a responsibility. May assist in instructing peers.
Knowledge of basic tools, traffic safety, recycling, landscaping, and park maintenance. Skills in communication, reading, basic computer use, technical and safety training, and reporting. Ability to follow instructions, exercise judgment, perform heavy manual labor in various weather conditions, operate equipment, and maintain good relationships with coworkers and the public.
Operate vehicles, stand, walk, climb, bend, reach, lift up to 50 lbs., push/pull, work in adverse weather, around chemicals, and around engine vibrations. Use keyboard, distinguish colors, see depth, hear, and speak clearly.
