Job summary

City of Wauwatosa is seeking a Parks Maintenance Worker to perform manual and semi-skilled labor to maintain parks, greenspace, and facilities. You will operate a range of equipment and lead seasonal staff.

Hours are 6:30 am–4:30 pm on a rotating schedule; starting pay is $25.17–$27.96/hr with potential increases to $32.16/hr in 2026 based on performance. Benefits include on-site fitness and more.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Associate’s Degree preferred in horticulture, urban forestry, or closely related field.
• No experience required, but two years of manual or semi-skilled tasks and heavy/medium truck operation preferred.

Responsibilities

• Operates municipal vehicles and equipment (front-end loader, street sweepers, lawn mowers, tractors).
• Maintains parks facilities: buildings, grounds, play equipment, athletic fields.
• Sets up, takes down, and monitors park events and rentals.
• Performs outdoor manual or semi-skilled labor in all weather.
• Updates digital work orders and GIS inventories from the field.
• Leads seasonal employees in day-to-day park operations.
• Performs basic maintenance of equipment (greasing, washing, fueling, winterizing).
• Assists forestry crews with tree pruning operations as needed.
