Job summary

City of Victoria is seeking a Parks Maintenance Worker III to support parks, athletics, and facilities teams. The role involves supervising and training crew members, operating heavy equipment, and performing carpentry, electrical, and plumbing tasks in park facilities.

Requires a valid Class C driver’s license and knowledge of safety and chemical handling, with responsibilities spanning grounds upkeep, irrigation, and event support.

Qualifications

• Experience in maintaining public spaces and athletic fields.
• Knowledge of safety regulations and chemical handling.
• Ability to operate and troubleshoot landscape tools and irrigation systems.
• Ability to read manuals and train others, supervise a small team.
• Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and work outdoors in varied weather.

Responsibilities

• Read manuals and lead team in park equipment operation and repairs.
• Train team members in cleaning, maintenance, and tool inspections.
• Operate heavy equipment (backhoe, loader, Bobcat, bucket truck, trailer).
• Perform basic carpentry, electrical, and plumbing tasks in restrooms and facilities.
• Mow, edge, and maintain grass areas; collect debris and manage tools.
• Trim trees and shrubs; use pole saw and chain saw with team checks.
• Apply fertilizers, pesticides, and vector control as required.
• Maintain sprinklers, irrigation lines, and perform backwashing for systems.
• Assist in park improvements (playgrounds, lighting, sod, fencing) and event setups.
• On-call for post-hour events and ensure safety standards.
