Job summary

The City of Oakland is seeking a Gardener II for the Public Works Department, Parks and Tree Services Division. The role focuses on maintaining parks, gardens, fields, and green spaces citywide while working as part of a crew or independently as needed.

You will operate equipment, support staff, and perform diverse gardening tasks in outdoor settings. Applicants should have related experience and a valid California driver’s license; long-term development and teamwork are emphasized.

Qualifications

• Minimum one year of relevant gardening or park maintenance experience.
• College coursework in horticulture may substitute for experience.
• Possession of a valid California Driver's License.

Responsibilities

• Maintain landscaped parks, gardens, sports fields, and green spaces.
• Work as part of a crew or independently as assigned.
• Operate a variety of vehicles and equipment.
• Help train assigned personnel and transport staff to project sites.
• Perform complex gardening and horticultural tasks.
