Job summary

The City of Oakland’s Public Works Department – Parks and Tree Services Division is seeking a Gardener II to maintain landscaped parks, gardens, city facilities exteriors, sports fields, medians, and green spaces across Oakland. The role emphasizes teamwork, careful maintenance, and a strong work ethic in outdoor environments.

The ideal candidate has one year of Gardener I experience or two years of related landscape or park maintenance, plus a California driver's license.

Qualifications

• Enthusiastic team player with the ability to follow directions and work independently.
• Experience performing a variety of landscape maintenance tasks.
• Valid California driver's license and good driving record.

Responsibilities

• Maintain landscaped parks, gardens, sports fields, and green spaces.
• Work as part of a crew or independently as assigned.
• Operate a variety of vehicles and equipment.
• Help train assigned personnel and transport staff to project sites.
• Perform complex gardening and horticultural tasks.
