Job Summary

Employees in this class are under supervision of Division Foreman or Manager. Work is performed in a variety of parks and recreation maintenance and construction tasks. Examples of work performed: mowing, weed-eating, mulching, landscaping, maintaining athletic fields, repairing and installing playground and park equipment, painting and repairing equipment, etc.; performs work in an unskilled or semi-skilled nature when necessary; inspects equipment and performs routine maintenance on a regular basis, assist with departmental special events, performs related work as required. Must be able to work a flexible schedule including nights and weekends.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions
  • Knowledge of tools and equipment to be used in performance of duties
  • Ability to operate light motor vehicle and mowing equipment
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions
  • Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with the public and other employees
Required Minimum Qualifications
  • Must possess a valid TN driver's license.
Preferred Qualifications
  • A high school education or equivalent is preferred.
Working Conditions

Physical: Requires good hand/eye coordination and dexterity while using tools and operating tractor, mower, etc. Some lifting of heavy materials; frequent stooping and crouching while working in flower beds.

Environmental: Exposed to extreme weather conditions, noise and dirt.
