Job summary

City of Belton is seeking a Parks Maintenance worker to perform unskilled and semi-skilled tasks across park buildings, grounds, and open spaces. The role covers mowing, lawn care, playgrounds, pool maintenance, restroom upkeep, carpentry, plumbing, and general custodial duties.

You will operate a range of equipment—from tractors, mowers, and irrigation systems to buffers and power tools—while adhering to safety standards.

Qualifications

• Experience with basic building and grounds maintenance tasks.
• Ability to operate and maintain park maintenance equipment.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform strenuous outdoor work.
• Valid driver's license.
• Ability to read and follow written and oral instructions.

Responsibilities

• Mows and maintains park and open space areas such as baseball and soccer fields; mows weeds; cleans and maintains tennis courts and nets; maintains sprinkler systems and assists in the repair and installation of sprinkler lines and heads.
• Drags ball fields, lines fields for games.
• Performs swimming pool maintenance as required.
• Inspects, washes, and performs routine maintenance of park drinking fountains and restrooms.
• Sweeps, washes, paints, and repairs or replaces park tables and slabs.
• Performs minor semi-skilled interior building maintenance such as painting, plumbing, carpentry, and other unskilled and semi-skilled trades work.
• Performs routine maintenance on lawn and power equipment.
• Plants and maintains landscaping, including lawns, trees, shrubs, and flowers.
• Carries out seeding, fertilizing, top dressing, soil conditioning, watering, and pest/weed control of the City’s parks and open spaces.
• Maintains and adjusts specialized turf care equipment and tools, including electric motors, pumps, sprinklers, irrigation systems.
• Operates tractors, mowers, jack hammers, welders, trucks, steam cleaners, buffers, washers, and other listed equipment as needed.
• Maintains current skills and knowledge in proper and safe techniques of building and ground maintenance functions and the handling of maintenance equipment.
• Performs custodial work such as required and assigned, including: changing light bulbs and fluorescent tubes; sweeping floors; vacuuming carpets; mopping; shampoo and steam cleaning carpets; buffing; dumping garbage and replacing liners; cleaning restrooms and replenishing supplies; dusting, etc.
• Collects and disposes of solid waste from buildings and grounds; picks up litter from premises.
• Opens and closes, locks, and unlocks facilities as needed.
• Assists in setting up and taking down equipment for park programs and prepares facilities for program use.
• Installs and maintains goal posts and nets for various sports facilities.
• Assists in the construction of new parks facilities, including clearing, grading, drainage, and foundation work.
• Keeps records of work completed.
• Performs other duties as assigned by the Parks Maintenance Supervisor.
• Serves as a member of various employee committees, as assigned.
