Job summary

Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission is seeking a Maintenance Mechanic 1 in Burlington, WA. The role covers construction, repair, and upkeep of park facilities, grounds, equipment, and vehicles, with significant travel and on-site duties across the Northwest region.

Ideal candidates have a strong mechanical background across carpentry, plumbing, and electrical work, plus a valid driver’s license.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Two (2) years of general work experience in building and equipment maintenance, construction, or repair work.
  • Valid unrestricted (except corrective lenses) driver's license.
  • Experience at State Parks or similar parks and recreation entity is desirable.
  • Experience leading and/or supervising lower-level staff is desirable.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office products (Outlook, Excel, Word) and hand/power tools is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Perform general maintenance, repair, remodel, and construction work on park facilities, grounds, vehicles, and equipment.
  • Carry out preventative maintenance to park buildings and facilities.
  • Maintain and repair irrigation, plumbing, and sewage systems with minor electrical repairs as needed.
  • Coordinate with management, staff, volunteers, and correctional crews during projects.
  • Independently operate vehicles necessary to perform duties.
  • Maintain health and safety standards.
