Job summary

The Department of Parks & Recreation is seeking a Community Coordinator to supervise Parks Enforcement Patrol operations across a borough or command and to plan community events. The role requires leadership, policy interpretation, and strong collaboration with NYPD and city agencies in New York City.

Qualified candidates must hold a baccalaureate degree with related experience or equivalent, with preferred supervisory background and eligibility for Special Patrolman/Peace Officer status.

Qualifications

• A baccalaureate degree with two years of experience in community work or related duties; or a high school diploma with six years of related experience; or an equivalent combination with at least one year of related experience.
• Preferred: qualify for Special Patrolman and Peace Officer status.
• Prior supervisory experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Oversee PEP operations for a borough, beach or command.
• Set priorities, establish assignments and deploy officers.
• Plan, implement, coordinate and monitor community events.
• Make recommendations on policies and procedures.
• Prepare monthly statistical reports and ensure accuracy of paperwork.
• Evaluate sergeants and oversee officer evaluations.
• Attend borough meetings and coordinate with Borough Commissioner and Chiefs.
• Maintain relations with NYPD and other city agencies.
• Meet with local politicians and community groups.
