Job summary

The City of New York's Parks & Recreation Department seeks a Community Coordinator to support Bronx Operations. The role coordinates diverse aspects of special event planning for Bronx parks, reviews proposals, conducts site visits, and manages events on site.

You will supervise staff, process permit requests, and collaborate with the Bronx Borough Commissioner’s Office and divisions to ensure events are run properly. Evening and weekend work is required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in a related field and two years of community work experience, or
• High school diploma with six years in community work, as described above, or
• Education/experience equivalent to the above with at least one year of equivalent experience.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate multiple aspects of special event planning for Bronx Operations.
• Review proposals, conduct site visits, assess site fees and manage events on site.
• Coordinate creation, development and production of Parks-produced events; supervise staff.
• Review and process special event permit requests; provide follow-up as needed.
• Collaborate with the Bronx Borough Commissioner’s Office and other divisions to ensure proper event management.
• Prepare reports and maintain event records and documentation.
• Conduct site visits and enforce Parks & Recreation rules for permit holders.
• Maintain yearly event statistical information and filing systems.
• Communicate effectively with staff and the public; resolve requests and concerns.
• Assist the Bronx Chief of Operations with other tasks as directed.
