Job summary

Oklahoma State University Stillwater is seeking a Transit Operations Supervisor to coordinate daily bus operations for fixed-route and demand-response services. You will assign, schedule, and dispatch buses, supervise 40–49 staff, and ensure safe, reliable service in line with policy.

Work Schedule

$22.00 - $27.00 (contingent upon available funding)

About this Position

This position is responsible for coordinating daily bus operations by assigning, scheduling, and dispatching bus operations and vehicles for both fixed-route and demand-response services. The role oversees field operations through the use of communication equipment and direct on-site supervision to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable transit services.

Key responsibilities include monitoring operator availability, assigning personnel to vehicles, communicating route adjustments, and providing field supervision as needed. The position manages the schedules and daily activities of 40-49 employees while exercising independent judgment to resolve operational issues in accordance with established departmental policies, procedures, and regulations.

Additional duties include interviewing, hiring, and training new route operators; recommending route modifications to the Director, Manager, or Assistant Manager; responding to customer concerns promptly and professionally; and maintaining accurate weekly ridership records.

A personal cell phone is required for work-related communication. Candidates must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screening, lift up to 60 pounds, and meet the requirements of this safety-sensitive position. In accordance with U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT) regulations, employees in this role must comply with the drug and alcohol testing requirements outlined in 49CFR Part 40.

Required Qualifications
  • High School/GED (degree must be conferred on or before agreed upon start date)
  • Four years of supervisory experience.
Certifications, Registrations, and/or Licenses:
  • Must have a CDL Class B license with P endorsement.
  • Air Brake endorsement required for Transit Supervisors only.
Skills, Proficiencies, and/or Knowledge:
  • Ability to operate a personal computer, communicate via two-way radio, and use Microsoft Office applications.
  • Knowledge of the operational characteristics of passenger buses.
  • Knowledge of the city’s arterial and secondary road network.
  • Strong mechanical knowledge.
  • Knowledge of transit operations.
  • Ability to lift up to 60 lbs.
