Job summary

The University of New Mexico is hiring a Parking Officer responsible for ensuring compliance with parking regulations across its campuses. This position requires excellent communication skills and a commitment to customer service while working outdoors in a physically active role.

We are looking for a reliable candidate capable of effectively communicating parking rules to a diverse range of individuals, as well as monitoring and managing safety concerns within parking facilities. A High School Diploma or GED is required, with no previous experience necessary.

Parking Officer

Parking and Transportation Services (PATS) is seeking a detail-oriented individual with strong customer service skills to serve as a Parking Enforcement Officer. This position requires a reliable individual who can consistently report to work as scheduled and fulfill assigned shifts. The role involves providing parking and campus information, communicating, enforcing parking rules and regulations, and ensuring a safe and organized parking environment across UNM campuses.

The ideal candidate will possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, thrive in public-facing roles, and be comfortable working outdoors in a physically active environment. This individual must be a dependable team player and demonstrate the ability to understand and apply policies, procedures, and regulations relevant to the position.

Key Responsibilities
  • Communicate parking regulations and campus information effectively to students, staff, faculty, and visitors.
  • Monitor campus parking facilities for safety concerns, report unusual activity, and assist with traffic control as needed.
  • Patrol parking lots and structures to ensure compliance with parking rules and report unsafe conditions.
  • Issue citations for parking violations, apply vehicle boots, and coordinate towing services when necessary.
  • Support special event parking operations, including traffic and crowd control activities.
Requirements
  • Demonstrated reliability, including the ability to report to work as scheduled and maintain consistent attendance.
  • Ability to work outdoors, standing and/or walking for at least 8 hours per day.
  • Availability to work evenings and weekends.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • A commitment to providing excellent customer service.
  • Capability to read, interpret, and apply policies, procedures, and regulations.
Minimum Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED; no previous experience required.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Customer Service Experience: Proven ability to work effectively with a diverse group of customers, ensuring a positive and inclusive experience.
  • Communication skills: Excellent written and oral communication skills, as demonstrated through the cover letter and interview process.
  • Technical Proficiency: Experience using computerized equipment and technology in a workplace setting.
Conditions of Employment
  • Possession of a valid New Mexico driver's license is a requirement for this job.
  • All regular, non-temporary positions assigned to this classification are represented by a labor union and subject to the terms and conditions of the CWA Collective Bargaining Agreement.
  • Employees who provide services or work in patient care or clinical areas are required to be in compliance with the University's influenza vaccination requirement.
