Job summary

The City of New York is hiring Traffic Device Maintainers to install, repair and maintain a wide range of parking meters and related devices. This role requires hands-on mechanical and electrical work, use of diagnostic tools and computers, and a strong commitment to safety while operating in various NYC locations.

Based in Maspeth with a Monday–Friday 5am–1:30pm shift, the position involves field labor, snow/ice removal, and participation in a major citywide upgrade project.

Qualifications

• Two years of full-time experience using hand and/or power tools to assemble, repair, maintain or install mechanical/electrical devices.
• A four-year high school diploma or equivalent and one year of relevant experience or graduation from an approved four-year trade/technical/vocational program with a mechanical/electrical major.
• Six months of training credited for each year of related trade/technical schooling to meet experience requirements.

Responsibilities

• Install, maintain and repair traffic control devices including meters, signs, racks and related equipment.
• Operate and perform routine maintenance on field and shop vehicles and equipment used in parking operations.
• Respond to service calls, perform graffiti removal and participate in snow/ice removal as required.
• Assist in the installation of new meters and nationwide upgrades such as license plate recognition projects.
