Job summary

Florence County is seeking a Park Ranger at Independence Farm Park to enforce park regulations and assist visitors with information about recreational resources and park history.

The role includes maintaining park facilities, handling events, collecting fees, and operating equipment such as tractors and backhoes. A valid South Carolina driver’s license and First Aid/ CPR certification are required or must be obtained on hire.

Qualifications

• Requires a high school diploma or equivalent plus one year of general maintenance experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
• An understanding of protecting and maintaining park natural areas is desired.
• Basic knowledge of canoeing/kayaking is desired.
• Must possess a valid S.C. driver’s license.
• Must possess, or be able to complete, First Aid and CPR certification on hire.

Responsibilities

• Patrols the park to enforce rules and safeguard park facilities.
• Performs custodial and housekeeping activities to keep the park attractive, clean, and safe.
• Conducts regular park walk-throughs with Park Ranger Supervisor to identify maintenance needs.
• Prepares rental facilities for events, checks in customers and overnight guests, stays on site to assist customers, and secures buildings after events.
• Collects fees, makes change, completes documentation, and reconciles funds.
• Operates equipment such as tractor, backhoe, and other tools.
• Assesses needs for equipment, supplies, and materials; reports findings to Supervisor.
• Answers questions and releases information with appropriate judgment; considers consequences of decisions.
