Job summary

The Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation invites applications for a Park Ranger Maintenance role at Kiptopeke State Park. As Natural Resource Spec II, you will lead maintenance tasks, supervise staff and volunteers, and ensure safety and quality of park facilities and grounds.

The role requires hands-on experience with carpentry, plumbing, electrical work, and vehicle maintenance, plus strong communication skills. A valid driver’s license is required and state benefits apply.

Qualifications

  • Experience in leading, directing, and training by staff and volunteers.
  • Experience in evaluating work performed by others.
  • Experience using a variety of tools, materials and equipment to maintain park facilities and grounds to include mowing, landscaping, tree work, and upkeep on trails.
  • Knowledge of basic construction and maintenance trades such as carpentry, plumbing, electrical work, and masonry.
  • Experience in vehicle maintenance, including small/large engine repair and hydraulic systems repair.
  • Proficient verbal and written communication skills for interacting with staff, guests, and preparing correspondence/reports.
  • Experience using computers and software applications.
  • Valid Driver’s License.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Experience in leading, directing, and training by staff and volunteers.

Additional Considerations
  • Experience operating large equipment.
  • Experience overseeing workplace safety, OSHA compliance, and safety training.
  • Experience managing/operating public water systems.
  • Demonstrated experience interacting with park visitors, providing information relating to park rules, park activities, or providing similar customer service activities in a comparable environment.
  • Demonstrated experience with supervising grounds keeping, maintenance, construction or other work related to the upkeep and operation of recreational areas.
