Job Duties

The Fiscal Technician performs advanced professional level work of considerable difficulty requiring the analysis/interpretation of fiscal data and the application of accounting theory and principles to serve as a Fiscal Technician with agency wide implications. Duties include managing fiscal data, preparing reports and/or schedules, processing detailed information into the financial system. We have two positions available.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Working knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles, policies, procedures and standards.
  • Considerable knowledge and skill in the use of computer-based accounting and financial software.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently.
  • Demonstrated knowledge organizing, evaluating, handling high volume and fast paced workflows.
  • Demonstrated knowledge analyzing, interpreting, and applying detailed financial policies, and procedures.
  • Experience effectively communicating orally and in writing.
  • Experience with MS Office Excel, Word, and using other database applications.
  • Experience providing exemplary customer service.
  • Experience processing accounting transactions in an automated office environment.
Additional Considerations
  • Experience with the Commonwealth’s accounting system, Cardinal.
  • Experience with processing similar transactions in a state office; following state accounting policies and procedures.

Wage/seasonal positions are not eligible for Commonwealth of Virginia benefits (health care, paid leave, etc.) and are limited to 1,500 hours from May 1 to April 30.

DCR provides the opportunity for wage employees to participate in tax-deferred compensation programs, supplemental disability insurance, and supplemental retirement accounts made available through the Commonwealth’s provider network at the employee’s expense.

A valid driver’s license is required to operate a state vehicle or a personal vehicle while conducting official business on behalf of the agency.
