Job summary

The North Carolina Department of Natural and Cultural Resources (DNCR) seeks a Park Ranger II at Merchants Millpond State Park in Gatesville, NC. You will deliver educational programs, enforce laws, supervise staff, and manage park operations to protect resources and ensure visitor safety.

Qualifications

• Requires a bachelor's degree in Parks and Recreation and/or Natural Science with at least 1 year of relevant experience.
• Includes certification as a Law Enforcement Officer within required timelines.

Responsibilities

• Investigates and enforces criminal laws and park rules.
• Patrols by vehicle or on foot to enforce laws and regulations.
• Present evidence in court with clear, concise documentation.
• Issue camping permits and manage facilities and equipment.
• Supervise Park Ranger I and temporary staff; may act as park superintendent.
• Recognize emergencies and take appropriate action.
• Manage large tour groups and assist visitors with issues.
• Lead interpretive and educational activities on ecology and park history.
• Oversee boundary maintenance and monitor natural resources.
• Develop and implement resource management and I&E programs.
• Communicate effectively through written and oral interactions.
• Respond to safety or law enforcement issues in the park and other locations.
• Provide first aid, EMS, and rescue; assist other agencies.
• Provide security for large events and public programming.
• Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs of park facilities, vehicles, and equipment.
