Job summary

North Carolina Department of Natural and Cultural Resources (DNCR) seeks a Park Ranger I at Lumber River State Park in Orrum, NC. The role focuses on educational programming, natural and cultural resource management, and law enforcement within a state park setting.

Responsibilities include environmental interpretation, emergency response, facility maintenance, and supervising seasonal staff. A LE officer certification or ability to achieve it within a year is required; expect a rotating schedule

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree preferably in Parks and Recreation and/or Natural Science from an appropriately accredited institution.
• An equivalent combination of training and experience.

Responsibilities

• Research the park's natural and cultural resources and develop resource management plans, including prescribed fire and invasive species removal.
• Prepare and conduct environmental interpretation and education programming.
• Perform emergency medical response and rescue in the park and other parks as needed.
• Assist with maintenance of park facilities and routine repairs.
• Manage operations, facility upkeep, and visitor programs; issue permits and procure equipment.
• May hire and supervise temporary/seasonal staff.
