SUMMARY
Park Ranger provides public information and assistance, public safety, resource protection, interpretive programming, and assists in light maintenance at all division facilities.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provides visitor services, including education and information regarding recreational opportunities and safety.
- Observes, collects, and reports information affecting division facilities and users.
- Educates the public about all division Rules and Regulations and enforces them as needed.
- Organizes and performs recreational and interpretative programming.
- Responsible for crowd and traffic control within division facilities/events.
- Performs routine patrols by vehicle, bicycle, foot, utility vehicle, and boat in various weather conditions.
- Assists all local, county, state, and federal agencies as needed.
- Performs daily vehicle/equipment checks and completes patrol logs, incident reports, attendance counts, and maintenance requests.
- Assists in light maintenance tasks such as trash pickup, restroom cleaning, and snow removal.
- Supports special events and projects in any region.
- Assists in natural resource restoration projects as directed.
- Provides emergency aid to visitors and contacts EMS as needed.
- May supervise volunteers and community service workers.
- Required to undergo training as assigned.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and abilities required.
- Experience in resource protection, visitor services, outdoor education, and/or emergency services preferred.
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Minimum High School diploma or GED required; Bachelor's Degree in Park Management, Administration, Natural Resources, Environmental Sciences, or related fields preferred.
- Must be able to read, write, and speak English.
- Must project a pleasant and professional presence when interacting with the public.
- Must possess a valid Driver's License, a satisfactory driving record, and maintain it throughout employment.
- Successfully pass the PA State Police Criminal Record Check.
- Must have good problem-solving skills and judgment.
- Ability to complete assigned work within deadlines.
- Familiarity with PA Fish & Boat and PA Game Commission regulations, as well as local ordinances.

- Ability to climb, stoop, bend, reach, walk, sit, or stand for long periods.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds repeatedly.
- Must be able to lift and use hand-held equipment up to 20 pounds for extended periods.
- Wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) when applicable.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
This position is field-based. The work environment may include:
- Exposure to chemicals, hazardous vegetation (e.g., poison ivy), animals, bees, and other hazards.
- Exposure to inclement weather, extreme heat, cold, snow, ice, and rain.
- Work at various sites as assigned.
- Requirement to work weekends, evenings, and holidays as needed.
- Availability for emergencies outside normal hours.
- Wearing a provided uniform.
- Moderate to loud noise levels.
