Job description

Join the Pennsylvania Game Commission’s Forest Management Division as a Forest Technician. If you want to work outdoors and be part of a team that preserves and protects our state’s natural resources for the benefit of current and future generations, then this is the role for you!

In this position you will work with regional forestry staff on habitat management and promoting young forests in the Southcentral Region of our State Game Lands. This includes following instructions provided by the forester to mark the boundaries of various areas within the forest, examining trees and timber to conduct volume computations, and collecting field data. You will also participate in the application of herbicides for forest habitat management and maintenance, as well as conduct surveys and prepare forest habitat type maps for use by foresters. Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 40 hours per week.
  • Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • This position will be headquartered at the Perry County Habitat Management Crew headquarters office

    The focal management area will be in the counties of Snyder, Mifflin, Juniata, Perry, and Cumberland,

    but work will cover all of the Southcentral Region.

  • Telework:You will not have the option to telework in this position.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • An associate’s degree in forest technology; or
  • Completion of equivalent formal education in forestry.
  • Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within three months of graduating with a qualifying degree.

Condition of Employment:

  • This positionrequires possession of a valid PA non-commercial Class C driver’s license or equivalent.
