Job description

Under the general direction of the Park Operations Manager, the employee will perform manual labor, including skilled tasks or assisting skilled workers. Positions in this classification report to a designated supervisor and work under direct or limited supervision. This role emphasizes skilled parks maintenance and construction, distinguished from higher classes by its lack of supervisory duties.

The responsibilities include:

1. Performing routine trail, grounds, and landscaping work, such as pruning, trimming, weed control, mowing, spraying herbicide and fertilizer, raking, leaf blowing, edging, loading trimmings, trash pickup, and debris removal.
2. Installing city trees, shrubs, and bedding plants, including site preparation, planting, and supporting structures.
3. Operating motorized equipment like mowers, tractors, loaders, backhoes, trucks, and trailers; maintaining and washing vehicles.
4. Inspecting and performing scheduled maintenance on equipment, including adjustments, lubrication, and repairs.
5. Maintaining athletic fields, including chalking, watering, packing, layout, painting lines, and trash removal.
6. Assisting with recreation equipment maintenance, assembly, and repair.
7. Performing basic electrical, carpentry, plumbing, painting, concrete, and other trades work using power tools.
8. Conducting hand and bench work in carpentry and performing welding and metal repairs.
9. Supporting city events by maintaining displays, moving equipment, setting up barricades, flagging, and cleanup.
10. Assisting with office equipment, cleaning, and building maintenance.
11. Ensuring park facilities are secure, responding to emergencies, and enforcing rules.
12. Attending work regularly and on time.

Additional duties include consulting on complex problems, providing reports, and assisting with manual revisions. The role requires a high school diploma or equivalent, one year of relevant experience, and a valid Georgia driver’s license. Knowledge of tools, maintenance methods, safety precautions, and effective communication are essential. The employee must also demonstrate physical endurance, teamwork, problem-solving, planning, and communication skills.
