Job summary

The Carteret County Government is seeking a Part-time County Parks Maintenance Assistant to support park facilities across the county. This role involves grounds keeping, ballfield maintenance, and related duties in the evenings and on weekends.

Hiring rate is 17.49 per hour, with up to 19 hours per week. Applicants must undergo background checks and screenings; posting expires September 15, 2026. Graduation from high school and relevant experience are preferred.

Qualifications

Graduation from high school and considerable experience in skilled trades and building and grounds maintenance.
Possession of a valid North Carolina driver's license upon hire.
Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends and holidays when required.

Responsibilities

Repairs and maintains park equipment and buildings.
Performs plumbing, masonry, carpentry and minor electrical work.
Collects trash and garbage and disposes of same.
Mows grass, trims shrubbery and trees.
Operates trucks and tractors in grounds preparation and maintenance work.
Performs custodial duties at all parks and recreation facilities; answers patrons’ questions; assists in setting facility up for usage as required.
Performs minor building, custodial, repair and maintenance work.
Services and maintains light automotive equipment.
Marks off athletic fields and courts to prescribed standards
