Job summary

The City of Kannapolis is seeking a Park Maintenance Technician I for a part-time role in the Parks and Recreation Department. The position reports to a Park Manager I and performs semi-skilled grounds maintenance and event support under moderate supervision.

Responsibilities include assisting with opening/closing parks, enforcing park rules during events, beautification tasks, mowing and litter pickup, and general custodial duties. Requires a GED or HS diploma and NC drivers license.

JOB SUMMARY

The Park Maintenance Technician I performs semi-skilled work in grounds maintenance and special event work in the Parks and Recreation Department. Reporting to a Park Manager I, the Park Maintenance Technician I works under moderate supervision sufficient to monitor progress and assess achievement of key performance indicators.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Works with Parks Maintenance Technician II to assist with opening and closing parks.
  • Enforces rules and regulations at parks and during special events.
  • Assists with beautification work, including, but not limited to planting flowers, spreading pine needles and mulch.
  • Assists with grounds maintenance, including, but not limited to, mowing, trimming, litter pick-up and trash collection.
  • Assists with routine cleaning and custodial duties.
  • Provides manual labor assistance associated with special events, including concerts, movies.
  • Performs related tasks as required.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  • Basic working knowledge of the operation of grounds maintenance equipment.
  • Ability to work well with others
  • Ability to work unusual hours, especially nights and weekends.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING

High school diploma or GED.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Must be at least 18 years of age. A valid NC Class C Drivers License is required to be maintained during the entire duration of employment.
  • Must be available to work a minimum of 24 hours/week.
