Job summary

Town of West Springfield is seeking a Maintenance Worker responsible for upkeep of recreation areas, athletic fields, parks and playgrounds. The role involves operating equipment for snow removal, painting and minor repairs to town-owned assets, and performing grounds maintenance across parks, playgrounds and skating rinks.

Candidates must have a high school diploma or equivalent and at least two years of related experience, plus a Massachusetts driver's license.

Qualifications

High school graduation or equivalent plus two years experience in the same or a related field or any equivalent combination of education and experience required to perform the essential functions of this position.
MA Driver's License required.
Experience in construction or maintenance work preferred.

Responsibilities

Operates light to heavy-duty equipment for snow removal (depending on license class).
Paints and makes minor repairs to Town-owned equipment and buildings.
Performs tasks normally assigned to a laborer.
Installs park and playground equipment and sets up hockey rinks; maintains park areas, playgrounds and skating rinks.
Assists the Forestry dept. with operations.
Performs grounds maintenance: plants, seeds, rakes, fertilizes and grades, waters and trims fields and park areas.
