Job summary

City of Amarillo is seeking a qualified Parks Maintenance Supervisor to lead park grounds, athletic fields, and facility upkeep. You will supervise crews, manage maintenance programs, and coordinate safety training under the Park Superintendent's direction.

Required is a Bachelor’s degree in Horticulture or related field with two years of related work, plus a Texas Driver’s License. Pesticide license within 6 months is expected; playground safety and irrigation licenses are preferred.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Horticulture or related field and two years of related work in maintenance.
  • Valid Texas Driver’s License required.
  • Must obtain TDA Pesticide Applicator License within first 6 months of employment.
  • Certified Playground Safety Inspector, Texas Irrigation Technician License, and Certified Pool Operator preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Plans, supervises, and coordinates the operation and maintenance of city parks and recreational areas.
  • Plan, assign, and coordinate the work of crews engaged in maintaining park facilities.
  • Interview, hire, and evaluate subordinate employees.
  • Supervise turf maintenance, irrigation, and field upkeep.
  • Assist in developing work standards and inspect work in progress.
  • Assist in preparing department budget and safety training.
  • Order tools, equipment, and materials.
  • Meet with civic groups and coordinate volunteer efforts.
  • Prepare reports for management.
  • Direct, inspect, and communicate with contractors.
  • Perform related duties as directed.
