Job summary

St. Michael Poplar Springs Catholic Church in Mount Airy, MD is seeking a part-time Maintenance Technician to oversee maintenance and repair of parish buildings and facilities. The role reports to the Director of Parish Operations and requires hands-on work in electrical, HVAC, carpentry, plumbing, and related tasks.

The position is permanent, 12-month, 20-25 hours per week, with a pay rate of $25.00 per hour and benefits including sick leave and 403(b) enrollment.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Valid driver's license with no more than three points on driving record.
• Experience in one or more of the primary maintenance fields identified above is required.
• Ability to move furniture and equipment weighing up to and exceeding 100 pounds with assistance.
• Ability to operate various manual and power tools, and automated systems.
• Ability to safely ascend and descend ladders.
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities

• Perform basic and routine maintenance, construction, and repair tasks to standards.
• Assist with facility projects including painting, drywall repair, carpentry, and fixture installation.
• Maintain organization and cleanliness in facilities and workspaces.
• Communicate progress and issues to the DPO.
• Use PPE and practice safe work habits at all times.
• Perform snow removal and seasonal duties as assigned.
