Job summary

Samaritas in Kalamazoo, MI is seeking a Parenting Coach to empower families, support children’s safety, and guide visits to strengthen parent-child relationships.

In this full-time role you will coach parents, document progress, collaborate with caseworkers, and help families move toward healthier, stable outcomes.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in human services or a related field is required.
• At least one year of experience working with families facing complex challenges.
• Strong knowledge of child development.
• Experience in school, daycare, or family support settings preferred.
• Familiarity with the Nurturing Parent Program, AAPI, or NSCS is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Educate and coach parents on effective parenting skills through observation, modeling, and real-time feedback.
• Supervise parent-child visits in homes, offices, or community settings.
• Ensure the safety of children and intervene when necessary.
• Observe and document interactions, noting strengths and areas for growth.
• Collaborate with caseworkers and provide regular updates on family progress.
• Help parents identify visitation goals and reinforce positive development.
• Conduct pre- and post-assessments using AAPI and NSCS tools.
• Provide transportation for children and families as needed.

In this meaningful role, you will supervise and coach family visits for children in foster care, helping parents strengthen their skills, rebuild trust, and work toward reunification—all while ensuring the safety and well-being of each child.

What You’ll Do
