Job summary

Children and Families First Delaware Inc. seeks a part-time community outreach worker to foster parent relationships at Shotlidge Academy in Wilmington.

You will engage parents, connect families with services, and support school- and community-based activities during the school year. The role requires flexibility for evenings/weekends, a high school diploma or GED, and preferably an AA degree with related experience.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED with 2 years of related experience; AA degree with experience is desirable.
• Bilingual (Spanish/English) desirable.
• Must be flexible schedule for some evening and/or weekend activities.
• Former or current parent and/or resident of the feeder area for the school is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Foster relationships with parents and school community members.
• Establish linkages with neighborhood organizations for information gathering, referrals and advocacy.
• Engage parents in school activities and support parent resource centers.
• Maintain communication about available services, trainings, and programs.
• Work with school staff to plan workshops, trainings, and seminars for parents.

Description

• Foster relationships with parents and other members of the assigned school in the community and work with groups and community based collaborations through formal and informal contacts.
• Establish linkages with neighborhood-based organizations for the purpose of information gathering, referral and advocacy for families.
• Engage parents in school activities through community outreach. Support parent resource center activities at school, including information and referral to services for families as appropriate.
• Maintain communication with parents of all services, training, and program opportunities available through the community schools project.
• Work in partnership with the Community School Site Coordinator at the assigned school and school staff to plan ongoing workshops, training and seminars for parents.
• Take the lead role as needed to plan and coordinate events. Recruit target families and connect them with the services appropriate to them, identifying specific needs and any barriers.
• Maintain attendance records for all parent activities and classes.
• Part-time, hourly positions (Up to 25 hours/week), no benefits.
• Work during school year only, 10 months/ year.
