Job summary

Transdev North America in Springfield, VA is seeking safe, customer-service oriented drivers for the WMATA Metro Access contract. As a Driver, you will provide reliable transportation and assist passengers with boarding and disembarking.

You will operate assigned routes, perform pre- and post-trip inspections, and ensure safety, timely service, and compliance with all policies. This role requires a valid driver's license and English proficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Operate a vehicle on assigned WMATA Metro Access routes.

  • Ensure fare collection and document each boarding by fare type.
  • Maintain route sheets and communicate changes to supervisor.
  • Demonstrate safe driving and customer service at all times.
  • Attend required training and comply with all laws and client policies.

Transdev in Springfield, VA is looking for safe and customer service-oriented individuals to serve on our WMATA Metro Access contract. As a Driver, you would provide our clients with the freedom and independence of reliable, safe transportation. Drivers will operate a vehicle on an assigned route in transporting passengers to and from designated locations, as well as related activities, in a safe, timely manner. Competitive Compensation

$24.59 - $36.00 (based on CBA pay scale)

Duties
  • Operators shall complete pre‑trip inspections prior to pull‑out and post‑trip inspections following pull‑in.
  • Operators shall report emergencies (accidents, incidents, suspicious activity or packages, and fires), service disruptions, and other occurrences.
  • Operate the two‑way equipment correctly and according to company policy.
  • Ensure fare collection and recording of each boarding by fare type, including recording of non‑fare boarding as set forth by the Client and regional fare policies.
  • Maintain, read and understand route sheets including time changes and notify supervisor immediately of any changes.
  • Maintain good work habits through timeliness and low absenteeism for daily assignment and extra trips.
  • Inspect each vehicle before and after each trip using correct procedures, complete all necessary forms, and report.
  • Operate the vehicle and stop to allow passengers to board and disembark using safe and responsible procedures.
  • Operate adaptive transportation lift to board and discharge challenged passengers using safe and responsible procedures.
  • Maintain a presentable appearance, proper dress, neat grooming and good hygiene.
  • Maintain a cooperative attitude with fellow employees, supervisors, passengers, always promoting company goodwill.
  • Control emergency situations in a proper manner.
  • Control vehicle keys, pre‑trip and post‑trip forms while in possession, and turn in to dispatch as required by your supervisor.
  • Successfully complete driving skills evaluation.
  • Attend all required in‑service training, company required safety meetings and training.
  • Comply with all contractual obligations as well as all local, state and federal laws and regulations pertaining to the operation of the vehicle.
  • Immediately report every accident, no matter how insignificant it may appear.
  • Accurately maintain proper shift documentation reports and records.
  • Follow the correct end‑of‑shift procedures.
  • Be willing to work in a Union environment.
  • Perform other duties as required.
Requirements – Education and Experience
  • High school diploma required.
  • Valid driver’s license for the past five (5) years, including a national driver’s license verification and background check.
  • Minimum age 23 years.
  • Proficiency in English.
  • Ability to read a map, knowledge of the service area, and pass vision, road, and math map tests, etc.
  • Flexibility to work flexible hours.
  • Hospitable, guest/customer service oriented, and willing to serve the needs of passengers.
  • Complete and sign a Transdev DOT employment application in its entirety.
  • Provide a complete and verifiable employment history for the past 10 years.
  • Sign an FCRA form and complete an AiSight background release form.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Thorough knowledge of traffic laws and defensive driving.
  • Skill in operation of listed tools and equipment.
  • Ability to safely drive various vehicles.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with employees, supervisors and the general public.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to perform duties under varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to make independent judgments which have moderate impacts on the organization.
Licensing and Certification
  • Maintain a valid driver’s license for three years at the time of application.
  • No two or more moving violations within the past 36 months.
  • For those with a suspended license, three full years with no violations.
Pre‑Employment Physical
  • Undergo a pre‑employment drug test and physical by a company‑appointed physician/facility and receive clearance.
  • Willing to undergo random drug testing.
Physical Demands

10% of work is conducted in doors and in air‑conditioned or well‑ventilated facilities. 90% of work is conducted outside.

  • Perform physical activities that require considerable use of the arms, repetitive hand‑wrist motion, and legs, including climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling of passengers and materials.
  • Lift or handle up to 50–100 pounds (e.g., strapping in passengers and loading/unloading passengers).
  • Frequent work in outside weather conditions, exposure to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and vibrations.
Drug‑Free Workplace

  • Successfully pass a pre‑employment drug screen.
