Job summary

Transdev is hiring a Dispatcher at our WMATA location. The dispatcher oversees road service through communication with operators and provides customer support to clients, with a strong emphasis on safety and service quality.

We seek customer‑service‑oriented professionals who can manage routes, respond to incidents, and coordinate with emergency services. The role requires flexibility to work shifts and a focus on safety in all operations.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED. Technical degree preferred.
  • 3–5 years’ dispatching experience.
  • Excellent verbal, interpersonal and customer-service skills.
  • Problem-solving and analytical abilities.
  • Must be able to work shifts or flexible schedules.
  • DOT drug testing and physical exam may apply; no Schedule I drugs allowed.
  • Resume required when applying.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee road service by tracking trip performance and ensuring on-time routes.
  • Provide customer support for trips including no-shows and cancellations.
  • Manage emergencies, liaising between carrier and emergency services.
  • Review route performance and proactively handle service-impacting issues.
  • Perform additional duties as needed.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee road service assigned carriers by tracking trip performance, ensuring routes begin on time, monitoring incidents and performance metrics.
  • Provide customer support by responding to questions and concerns regarding trips, including no‑shows, cancellations, and missed trips.
  • Manage emergency situations for vehicle operators, acting as liaison between the carrier and emergency services.
  • Manage daily service by reviewing route performance and proactively responding to situations that impact customer service.
  • Perform other duties as required.

  • Must be able to work shifts or flexible work schedules as needed.
  • Subject to DOT drug testing and physical exam if applicable. DOT Regulation 49 CFR Part 40 does not authorize the use of Schedule I drugs, including cannabis, for any reason.

Physical Demands
  • 10% of work is performed indoors in air‑conditioned or well‑ventilated facilities; 90% is performed outdoors in varying temperature, weather, and humidity conditions, often alone and in remote locations.
  • Frequently stands and walks; can sit for up to three hours; walk long distances; possible sloped, slippery or uneven surfaces; normal manual dexterity and eye‑hand coordination; lift or handle material weighing up to 50–75 lbs. without assistance; bend, stoop, kneel, crawl, and crouch; corrected hearing and vision to normal range; verbal communication.
  • Exposure to heavy traffic, dust, vehicle fumes, noise, cleaning solutions, oils and other liquids.
  • Must be able to travel for company training, meetings or support missions.
