Job summary

Macomb Intermediate School District is seeking a Paraprofessional for the Autistic Impaired Program - Secondary, with 192 work days per year. As a paraprofessional, you will assist the classroom teacher, prepare instructional materials, supervise students, and support inclusive education efforts.

The position emphasizes patience, teamwork, reliability, and the ability to follow curriculum and written and verbal instructions.

Qualifications

• High school graduate with experience with special needs.
• Two years college credit preferred or Parapro assessment preferred.
• Cooperative, positive and flexible in relationships with students and staff.
• Patience in instruction and satisfaction with small progress in the year.
• Ability to follow curriculum and instructor's written/verbal instructions.
• Good attendance and punctuality history.
• Must pass criminal history background check as required by law.

Responsibilities

• Directly responsible to the classroom teacher.
• Assist in operation of the classroom and preparing instructional materials.
• Maintain classroom environment and supervise students in activities.
• Supervise students in physical education/aquatic activities when needed.
• Maintain good home and school relations.
• May assist with toileting and diaper changes.
• Assist with lunch program and student transitions.
• Assist students entering and exiting the building.
• Other duties as assigned by the teacher/principal.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• 1. High school graduate having had experience working with special needs students.
• 2. Minimum of two years community college credit preferred or successful completion of the WorkKeys or ETS Parapro Assessment preferred
• 3. Cooperative, positive and flexible in student/staff relationships.
• 4. Patience in instruction and the ability to be satisfied with seeing small increments in progress during the students' school year.
• 5. Ability to follow curriculum and instructor's written and verbal instructions.
• 6. Good attendance and punctuality record at previous job or educational experience.
• 7. Must pass criminal history background check as required by School Safety Legislation.

ASSIGNED RESPONSIBILITIES SHALL INCLUDE BUT NOT BE LIMITED TO:

• 1. Directly responsible to the classroom teacher.
• 2. Under the direct supervision of the classroom teacher assist in:
• a. Operation of classroom
• b. Preparing instructional materials
• c. Maintaining classroom
• d. Instructing/supervising children throughout the school program, which may include physical education/aquatic activities
• e. Maintaining good home and school relations
• f. May include toileting children, including changing diapers
• g. Lunch program
• h. Assisting students entering and exiting building
• i. Other duties as assigned by the teacher/principal
