Job summary

Wakulla County School District seeks a paraeducator to support teachers and students in a dynamic classroom environment. You will prepare materials, supervise activities, and perform clerical tasks under supervision to help deliver a quality educational program.

The role requires a high school diploma or equivalent, plus postsecondary study or an associate degree, and strong communication and organizational skills. Ongoing training will be provided.

Qualifications

• A high school diploma or its equivalent; and B. Two years of study at a postsecondary institution; (60 s.h.); or C. An Associate’s degree or higher; or D. Pass a rigorous examination demonstrating knowledge of and the ability to assist in instructing, reading, writing, and mathematics.(The Praxis ParaPro Assessment)
• Demonstrate proficiency in business skills, including typing/key-boarding skills, office machines, general filing/organization and possess excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Experience with children in an educational setting or related field. *
• All current school para-pros must meet highly qualified requirements by 6/3/11.

Responsibilities

• Assist the teacher in preparing materials and equipment for direct instructional activity.
• Schedule space for specialized instructional programs and coordinate equipment/area setup.
• Examine long and short term unit plans and anticipate needed supplies.
• Lead small group activity under teacher guidance.
• Assist in adapting curriculum for diverse cultural and socio-economic backgrounds and special needs.
• Assist in implementing student behavior management techniques.
• Maintain security of records, materials and equipment.
• Assist in maintaining classroom records and student performance data.
