Job summary

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent or higher.
• Two years of postsecondary study (60 s.h.) or an associate degree or higher.
• Pass a rigorous examination demonstrating knowledge to assist in instruction (Praxis ParaPro).
• Demonstrate proficiency in typing and communication.

Responsibilities

• Assist teacher in preparing materials and equipment for direct instructional activity.
• Schedule space for specialized instructional programs and coordinate equipment and layouts.
• Examine unit plans and anticipate supply needs.
• Lead small group activities under teacher supervision.
• Assist in adapting curriculum for diverse learners.
• Assist in implementing classroom behavior management techniques.
• Maintain security of records, materials and equipment.
• Assist in enforcing classroom rules and maintaining records.
• Assist in assessing student progress and proctor tests.
• Collect assessment data and organize it for review by the teacher.
• Provide instructional assistance as planned by the teacher or administrator.
• Maintain records documenting student performance.
• Communicate effectively with students and adults.
• Collaborate with peers to create a quality instructional environment.
• Participate in training programs and inservice.
• Support teamwork and confidentiality.
