Position: Paramedic - PRN

Location: Rutherford Regional Health System, Rutherfordton, NC

Overview: Rutherford Regional Health System is a 143-bed acute care facility offering a broad range of inpatient and outpatient services. Our partnership with Duke LifePoint Healthcare aims to transform healthcare in Rutherford County by combining clinical excellence with extensive healthcare resources.

Role Summary: The Paramedic assists nursing and physician staff in providing patient care in the Emergency Room, performing duties consistent with our mission, vision, and standards.

Essential Functions:

1. Determine the nature and extent of illness or injury and gather patient history.
2. Administer emergency medical care, including patient stabilization, monitoring, and resuscitation, within scope of practice.
3. Collaborate with medical personnel, report observations, and follow directives.
4. Maintain equipment, restock supplies, and ensure cleanliness.
5. Recognize critical presentations such as stroke and chest pain, and utilize green/red bags accordingly.
6. Perform IV starts, blood, and specimen collection.
7. Identify and address patient and family care needs promptly; regularly reassess patients and document responses.
8. Assist with patient reassessments under supervision.
9. Conduct basic diagnostic procedures and monitor patient condition, documenting care provided.
10. Maintain medical equipment and supplies, including reordering and troubleshooting.
11. Perform administrative duties such as filing, scheduling, data entry, and patient registration.
12. Assist with post-mortem care and transport to the morgue.
13. Handle patient valuables securely and document allergies appropriately in RED.

Qualifications:

• Minimum Education: Associate’s Degree or Vocational/Technical Diploma
• Skills: Critical thinking, decisive judgment, ability to work independently, handle stressful situations.
• Certifications: BLS required; ACLS, PALS, and Handle with Care completed within 3 months of hire.
• Licenses: NC-EMT-Paramedic
• Experience: 1-3 years preferred
