Job description

The Opportunity

Responsible for evaluating donor suitability for automated pheresis procedures, supervising immunizations (excluding red blood cell immunizations), and providing limited emergency medical care to donors and staff, including medication or treatment administration in accordance with licensure or certification.

The Role

1. Promote positive customer relations with all donors.
2. Conduct confidential interviews to assess donor suitability.
3. Collaborate with medical staff on donor health and suitability issues.
4. Perform health assessments and review test results.
5. Counsel donors on reactive test results and refer for follow-up.
6. Explain informed consent procedures and obtain signatures.
7. Handle medical emergencies per SOPs and maintain emergency supplies.
8. Review and determine continued donor suitability based on test results.
9. Monitor signs and symptoms affecting donation ability.
10. Oversee donor immunization programs and review antibody titers.
11. Accurately record donor data in electronic systems.
12. Maintain a clean work environment and ensure supplies are available.
13. Follow all safety and confidentiality policies.
14. Possibly cross-train in other areas and utilize bilingual skills if required.
15. Perform other duties as assigned.

Your Skills And Experience

Education

• Graduate from a paramedic, nursing, physician assistant, chiropractic, medical school, or naturopathic program.
• Foreign medical graduates must hold current licensing or certification.

Experience

• At least 1 year in a healthcare setting.
• Experience in plasma or blood collection preferred.
• Ability to perform physical assessments and instruct donors and staff.

Working Conditions

• Decision-making with moderate impact.
• Ability to follow instructions and observe equipment and donors.
• Physical ability to stand, walk, lift up to 25 pounds, and perform assessments.
• Work in a fast-paced environment with potential hazards.
