Job Description Summary

Responsible for evaluating donor suitability for automated pheresis procedures. Administers and supervises approved immunizations other than red blood cell immunizations. Provides limited emergency medical care to donors and staff, including medication or treatment administration in accordance with licensure or certification.

Job Responsibilities

• Promote positive customer relations with all donors.
• Conduct confidential interviews with donors to assess their suitability for plasma donation.
• Collaborate with the Center Medical Director and/or Center Physician to address medically related questions from staff and provide information on donor suitability and other medical issues.
• Perform medical history reviews and health assessments; evaluate donor screening and lab test results to determine ongoing suitability.
• Notify and counsel donors regarding reactive test results; refer them for follow-up and counseling as needed.
• Explain informed consent, including procedures, hazards, adverse events, immunization schedules, and obtain signatures.
• Handle medical emergencies per SOPs, provide routine care, and escalate situations to medical staff when necessary; ensure emergency kits are stocked and in-date.
• Review test results to determine continued donor eligibility, adhering to SOPs regarding test ranges and approvals.
• Assess signs and symptoms that may disqualify a donor from continuing.
• Manage employee hepatitis B and influenza immunization programs, including administration.
• Oversee donor immunization programs, review antibody titers, and maintain knowledge of immunization schedules.
• Accurately record donor data in electronic systems per SOPs.
• Maintain a clean work environment, ensure supplies are stocked, and follow HSE and OSHA policies; promote safety and conduct routine audits.
• Maintain confidentiality of all personnel, donor, and center information.
• May be cross-trained in other areas to meet operational needs.
• Bilingual skills may be required.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Education Requirements

• Graduation from a paramedic, nursing, physician assistant, chiropractic, medical school, or naturopathic program.
• Foreign medical graduates must be licensed or certified as required.

Experience Requirements

• At least one year of healthcare experience.
• Experience in plasma or blood collection preferred.
• Ability to perform physical assessments and instruct donors and staff.
