Job summary

Legal Aid Chicago in downtown Chicago seeks a full-time paralegal to support Employment Law work in the Immigrants & Workers’ Rights Practice Group. The role focuses on cases involving workers’ rights, discrimination, retaliation, wage theft, and unemployment benefits, with direct client interaction.

The position requires residency in the Chicago area, a bachelor's degree (preferred), strong written and oral communication, and proficiency with Microsoft Office.

Qualifications

• Undergraduate degree strongly preferred.
• Excellent oral and written skills, including drafting letters and basic pleadings.
• Good organizational and information-gathering skills are essential.
• Ability to work collaboratively with others.
• Strong computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and ability to learn new technology.

Responsibilities

• Provide litigation support to attorneys, including court and administrative filings and document maintenance.
• Assist with case assessment and preparation, including obtaining clients' personnel files and supporting documents.
• Conduct intake and interview clients to determine claims and remedies.
• Provide referrals to individuals not accepted as clients and coordinate with other services.
• Maintain knowledge of case acceptance criteria to facilitate referrals.
• Represent clients in hearings after training and supervision.
